Audubon Original Octavo Bird Test Sheets
Original Audubon Octavo test prints - uncolored.
These test sheets did not require trimming, thus the 11 inch measurement. As part of the Lord-Hopkins Collection it was uncovered in 1923 near the last residence and shop of John Bowen, the lithographer. Consisting of pattern prints and test sheets, this historic collection encompasses all three projects the Audubon family entrusted to Bowen - The Octavo Birds, the Octavo Quadrupeds, and the Imperial Quadrupeds and are a representation of American printmaking history. Some have handwritten instructions from Victor Audubon to Bowen. These are truly a fine addition to any Audubon collection. Very reasonably priced.
