Consign Original Audubon Art
Back to Princeton Audubon Prints Home Page
Looking to sell your Audubon originals? We accept consignments of all Audubon originals and other artists.
Why consign your prints to Princeton? We have 25 years of online experience in selling originals and uniquely have you the owner hold physical possession of the prints until funds from the buyer are received. Then we provide simple instructions as to the packing and shipment of your print to the buyer. This reduces the cost for all involved, provides you with a greater payout, and requires that the print be shipped only once, thus reducing chances for shipping damage.
If your print requires a cleaning or repair, we can arrange that for you.
Since all Havell, Imperial, and Bien editions are sold on approval, we will require (Unless sufficient provenance is provided) that high-quality photographs be provided so that potential buyers have an absolutely accurate representation of the print. This includes one picture of the entire back of the print, one picture of the entire front of the print, four quarter pictures of the front of the print (top left, top right, bottom left, bottom right), detailed pictures of any flaws in the print, such as tears, smudges, folds, and foxing, and a clear picture of the watermark on Havell prints. Videos are also acceptable.
Our commission is relative to the final selling price of your print. The more valuable the print, the less the commission. Our commission is from 10% to a maximum of 25% with no other charges, selling fees, or buyer's premiums. This often means a larger payout to you, the seller, than a typical auction. Our average commission for Havells is 15%.
What should be your asking price? This is your choice, but we can provide guidance such as recent auction sales and give a suggested asking price.
Here is what we recently received from a consignment client from Virginia …
"Princeton Audubon Prints and Ed were simply amazing to work with. Ed is knowledgeable, communicative, honorable, and patient. He deftly handles transactions and shares in the enthusiasm of both seller and buyer. He marketed and sold several beautiful Audubon original elephant folio prints on my behalf. I look forward to another opportunity to work with him."
You may use the form below or call us at 908-510-1621 or email us at princetonaudubonprints@gmail.com, As an alternative, you may also use this form and sign into your Google Sheets account to upload any photos of your artwork. Describe your print or collection and initially send a photo if possible. Include the part number from the top left and the plate number (usually in Roman numerals) from the top right. Include the name and the measurements of the prints, length and width. If your print is presently framed, measure from the inside edges of the frame, length and width. Do not measure only the visible area within the matting.
Next step: Once we have reviewed your information and accepted your request, we will at that time ask for (1) any provenance available, such as previous owners if known, and (2) high-quality photos of print, front and back. Octavos and Imperials need only one photo of the front and back. Havells require several photos as described above. Please call us if you need assistance.
If your print is presently framed, you will need to have it carefully removed in order to photograph it. (This step will not be necessary if you provide sufficient provenance) You may wish to have a local gallery unframe your print. Once removed and photographed, you may wish to also have the gallery place the print between two strong but light shipping boards which you can easily take home and temporarily store in your home. There is no need to place it back in the frame at this time.
We will provide a consignment contract.
Thank you for considering Princeton Audubon.
