Offered are two authentic early seventeenth-century copper-engraved maps from the celebrated Mercator-Hondius Atlas, among the most important atlases of the Age of Discovery.
Included:
FRETUM MAGELLANICUM – An extraordinary early map of the Strait of Magellan, Tierra del Fuego, Patagonia, and the southern extremity of the New World. Richly detailed with compass rose, rhumb lines, and contemporary hand coloring.
SCOTIAE III TABULA – A beautifully engraved map of northern Scotland and the Hebrides, featuring an elaborate decorative cartouche and original hand color.
Both maps retain their original Latin text versos and are attributable to the Mercator-Hondius Atlas published in Amsterdam circa 1610.
