$9,254.00
The Yellow Clown, 23 5/8 x 29 7/8
Mint Condition
The image depicts Marc Chagall's lithograph titled Le Cirque au Clown Jaune (The Circus with the Yellow Clown), created in 1967.
- This original color lithograph is hand-signed by Marc Chagall.
- The central figure is a vividly colored yellow clown, whose charismatic expression and whimsical gestures contribute to the lively circus scene.
- Chagall frequently explored circus themes in his work, finding inspiration in the figures of clowns, bareback riders, and acrobats, which held personal significance and allowed him to explore new artistic horizons.
- The work effectively engages the viewer, as the clown appears to look directly out and cup his hand to his mouth, inviting participation in the delightful performance.
Note: This print was given to Chagall's friend Martin Riskin who in turn provided it to Sy Kessler, an autograph dealer. My client obtained it from Kessler.
It is not part of the numbered edition of 150, which sells for 12,000 or more, but likely a limited printer's proof.
