Audubon Original Lord-Hopkins, all collections. Sold exclusively by Princeton, these are the last known prints to come from Bowen's Philadelphia studio.
The Lord-Hopkins Collection was discovered in 1923 near the last residence and shop of John Bowen, who was Audubon's lithographer. Consisting of pattern prints and test sheets, this historic collection encompasses all three projects Audubon entrusted to Bowen - the octavo birds, the octavo quadrupeds, and the imperial quadrupeds These are representations of American printmaking history. Some even have handwritten instructions from Victor Audubon to Bowen. The pattern prints are colored or partially colored. Test sheets are uncolored. The condition is consistent with well referenced prints. The octavo paper is untrimmed (no binding holes) as these were only used in Bowen's Philadelphia shop. These are truly a fine addition to any Audubon collection. Very reasonably priced.
