Original colonial New York certificate signed by Johannes De Peyster at Albany, May 25, 1736.
The document certifies that David A. Schuyler entered goods for transport to Oswego, including cloth and sixty gallons of rum, and had provided security for the duties payable under an Act of the General Assembly.
Signed by Johannes De Peyster, prominent Albany merchant, mayor, and colonial official. De Peyster served as Mayor of Albany and held numerous important civic and provincial offices during the eighteenth century.
An excellent example of early colonial commerce linking Albany and the strategic frontier post of Oswego during the pre–French and Indian War period.
Original manuscript on laid paper with red wax seal, folds, age toning, and minor handling wear consistent with age.
