Ivory-billed Woodpecker, plate 66, Whatman 1829 watermark.
25 3/4 x 38 inches.
Condition: Fair. We describe this beautiful and very rare and difficult to find Audubon original as fair only due to moderate paper loss as shown on upper left edge, fragile edges, and approximately a one inch loss across the top edge, just above the plate and part numbers. Top of branch and script numbering at top have varnish residue. We have included pictures of the entire print, front and back, so you can see the actual condition. The print has been cleaned, resulting in bright and bold color to the image itself. Earlier this year an Ivory-billed Woodpecker in faded condition sold at Sotheby’s for $56,250. In 2016 one in excellent condition sold for $122,000. One is currently on sale at Arader Galleries for $145,000. We invite your offers.
