THEODORE ROOSEVELT 1917 SIGNED WWI VOLUNTEER DIVISION LETTER – ROUGH RIDERS – MAY 25, 1917
Exceptional Theodore Roosevelt World War I letter dated May 25, 1917, sent from Roosevelt's office at 758 Fifth Avenue, New York, to D. R. Horne of Allentown, Pennsylvania.
This historically important letter concerns Roosevelt's effort to raise volunteer divisions for immediate service in World War I after Congress authorized the formation of volunteer forces. The letter discusses President Wilson's refusal to permit Roosevelt to organize the divisions and includes Roosevelt's reflections on the Rough Riders and volunteer military service.
