This original Audubon Octavo is an uncolored test sheet, thus the 11 inch measurement before trimming. Condition as shown. It was used as a reference point during the printmaking process. As part of the Lord-Hopkins Collection it was uncovered in 1923 near the last residence and shop of John Bowen, the lithographer. Consisting of pattern prints and test sheets, this collection encompasses all three projects the Audubon family entrusted to Bowen - The Octavo Birds, the Octavo Quadrupeds, and the Imperial Quadrupeds. Very reasonably priced. A true piece of American history. We of course suggest conservation framing.
